HOW TO FEED A BABY WHO IS SUFFERING FROM COLD?



Loss of appetite is normal for a baby who is unwell-throat pain while swallowing. Fever or a runny or blocked nose might make your baby cranky and restless. Here are a few tips to help you feed a baby suffering from fever, cold, and cough. 



CAUSES


- Virus infection of your baby's nose and throat


- Developing an immune system.


- Exposed to infection through playmates or an infected individual.



SYMPTOMS


- A congested or runny nose


- Fever


- Sneezing 


- Coughing


- Loss of appetite


- Throat pain while swallowing.


- Fever or blocked nose can make your baby cranky and restless.



WHEN TO CALL THE DOCTOR?


- If your baby has a cold for more than 10 to 14 days.


- Has a temperature higher than 100.4 F (38cC).


- Seems to possess ear pain or is unusually irritable.


- Has red eyes or creates yellow or greenish eye discharge.


- Has trouble breathing.


- Has a persistent cough.



FEEDING TIPS


- Small meals and plenty of fluids.


- Give enough to drink & keep them hydrated. Try giving water, soup, diluted fresh juices, coconut water, or oral rehydration solution.


- Coax your baby to drink or eat foods that he/she enjoys.


- Giving your baby a steam treatment - soothes the throat & helps swallow.


- Feed light foods that aren't too oily or spicy.


- Warm milk with a pinch of turmeric (Haldi)- calms a sore throat.


- Warm drink of honey (Shahad) and lemon (Nimbu) - soothes the throat


- Avoid citrus fruits such as orange (Santara), sweet lime (Mausambi), and tomatoes (Tamatar).
