DIAPER RASH IN BABIES SYMPTOMS AND PREVENTION


A diaper rash is a skin irritation that occurs in the diaper-covered area of babies. It is not a skin disease and it goes away in a few days with simple home remedies. 

WHAT IS A DIAPER RASH?

Common skin rash or irritation in the diaper covered area of the baby.


HOW DO I KNOW IF IT'S A DIAPER RASH?

- Red skin in the diaper region - bottom, thighs, and private parts. 

- Swollen skin which feels warm when touched

- The baby would cry when you touch or wash the diaper area


HOW DID MY BABY GET A DIAPER RASH?

- A very tight diaper that rubs against the skin

- The same diaper-wearing for a whole day or a long period of time

- A reaction to a new product like oil, powder, lotion or the baby wipe

- Infection caused by Bacteria or Yeast (Fungus)

- Use of antibiotics by the baby or breastfeeding mother


HOW CAN I PREVENT IT?

- Keep the diaper area clean

- Change the wet and dirty diapers as soon as possible

- Change diapers every 3 to 4 hours

- Do not reuse the same diaper, always use a fresh one

- Do not overtighten the diapers

- Wash the diaper area of your baby with warm water every time you change the diaper

- Slowly dry the skin with the help of a clean towel.

- You can also allow the area to dry on its own by air

- Leave your baby without a diaper whenever possible
