WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE?
- If your child is being mistreated mentally, physically, or sexually, it is known as child abuse.
- The one who is mistreating with the child is called as the harasser
- A harasser could be anybody inside or outside the house like parents, neighbors teachers, relatives, servants, school staff, etc.
- The child who is going through abuse is called a victim
- The victim could either be a girl or a boy
Note: Mental mistreatment of a child may include someone shouting at her, saying bad words, or insulting her in private or public.
WHAT ARE THE REASONS BEHIND CHILD ABUSE?
STRESS: If the harasser is emotionally disturbed by workload, financial problems or relationship issues
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: If the harasser is involved in domestic violence, he/she might express the anger on the child.
BEING MENTALLY ILL: The harasser's sadness or mental illness can cause such misbehavior
LACK OF PARENTING SKILLS: Parents or guardians who easily get tired of their responsibilities
CHILD'S CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR: If the child has a physical disability or mental disorder like autism then it becomes tougher for the guardian to deal with her.
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS TO KNOW WHETHER YOUR KID IS A VICTIM
- Look out for sudden changes in her behavior and performance at school/daycare
- If her body has any kind of scratches, marks or bites
- If she is usually talkative in nature but is not speaking to anyone these days
- Identify the people she doesn't like to meet or be with and ask her for the reason
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD GET OUT OF IT
- Help her learn the difference between good and bad touch
- Encourage her to share, be available to listen and respond immediately is he shares any incidences
- Teach her to shout loudly for help in place of being silent
