EAR INFECTION IN BABIES 6 TO 12 MONTHS
It is quite common for infants and young children to have ear infections. It happens mostly in babies between six and 12 months of age. However, it can be difficult to infections in your infant's tiny little ears. If the baby is coughing or her nose is runny and develops a fever in 3-5 days, it is possible that she has an ear infection.
CAUSES
- Cold
- Nasal (nose) congestion
- Viral or Bacterial Infection
SYMPTOMS
- Fever & runny nose
- Fussiness & constant crying
- Fluid accumulation or redness behind the eardrum
- Having difficulty in sleeping or even lying down
- Vomiting 7 reduced appetite
HOME REMEDIES
WARM COMPRESS - Gently hold a warm cloth bag (not hot) near the baby's ear for 4-6 minutes to help relieve the pain.
OFFER FLUIDS - Give your baby plenty of fluids to drink. It encourages swallowing, which can help to drain pus from the ears.
RAISE BABY'S HEAD - Slightly raise the baby's head by placing pillows under the mattress to help drain the pus easily.
WHEN TO CALL THE DOCTOR?
- If the baby has a high fever of 100.4°F (38°C)
- Release of blood or pus from the ears
Note: Do not put oil in the baby's ear as it may worsen the infection. Consult the doctor before using any medicine.
