WHAT TO DO IF YOUR BABY BITES YOUR NIPPLES

Most babies start biting the nipple when they are no longer hungry. They also bite during the teething stage when they are around 6 months old. Teething hurts and chewing helps to relieve baby's gum pain.

HOW TO STOP BABY FROM BITING NIPPLE

- Offer him a teething toy before the feeding

- Don't force nursing when the baby is distracted

- Stop the feeding immediately if he/she bites you

- Some older babies will bite for attention, so pay attention

- If baby bites again, calmly remove him/her from the breast and say nothing

YOUR BABY MIGHT BE BITING DURING A FEED BECAUSE:

- He/She wants your full attention

- He/She is getting distracted due to the surrounding

- You are forcing him/her to latch on

- Baby fall asleep during the feeding session

USEFUL TIP

If your baby still bites your nipple, do not forcibly remove his/her mouth as that may cause more damage to you. Instead, press your breast towards your baby's mouth. That would temporarily block the nose, and the baby would then got to release the tight-mouth grip so as to breathe.
